PRODUCT_

The Russian war against Ukraine is ongoing. Both post-combatants who suffered injuries and stress on the frontlines and civilian victims of Russian terrorist attacks require help to overcome PTSD and return to normal life as much as possible.

The “БАЗА” counseling app for providing mental health online services was possible due to active assistance from the IREX veteran reintegration program. All the content of this therapy online app was developed under this program, and the copyright belongs to the Psychological Support and Rehabilitation Non-Public Organization Vilnyi Vybir.

The NERDZ LAB team delivered the project’s healthcare UI/UX design and custom telehealth software development. The platform offers features for overcoming stress, relaxing, and handling PTSD symptoms.

БАЗА virtual mental health services app provides exercises for meditation, relaxation, stabilizing mental health, and enabling self-help for PTSD sufferers. This online mental health app reached the top of the App Store and Google Play regional free app charts just a week after its release, demonstrating its importance and value to the population.

Challenges

The key challenges here were implementing many features within a tight timeframe and ensuring the healthcare product design was comfortable, soothing, and welcoming for a target audience under mental stress.

Being experts in telemedicine software development services, NERDZ LAB went full steam ahead to overcome these challenges and deliver a top-notch product, enabling a digital transformation in healthcare for Ukrainian veterans.

To handle the project, we formed a team including a senior designer and a very experienced PM. Due to their in-depth expertise, the team chose the most relevant app architecture and delivered an intuitive, user-friendly, and highly performant app quickly.

FEATURES:

  • Player for audio content
  • Mood Tracker to help track the current mental state
  • Users can remain anonymous while optionally sharing personal information
  • Educational materials about mental health and self-help exercises
  • Guest mode so some features can be used without logging in
  • Offline mode to ensure the app is available anytime and anywhere
  • Dark/Light mode so users can toggle between appropriate brightness

DESIGN OVERVIEW

The app’s target audience is post-combatants, police officers, and their respective families aged between 18 and 80, with potential mental health issues. Thus, providing a soothing yet intuitive design was imperative to ensure those less technologically adept could navigate the app independently and that triggers for PTSD sufferers were avoided.

The customer had prepared a pretty detailed information architecture, which we discussed with them and adjusted based on our expertise.

Finally, we added a dark and light theme and adaptive coloring based on the user’s phone preferences. This ensures the app is not too bright at night.

THE RESULTS

БАЗА teletherapy platform reached the top free app spot on the App Store in under a month.

Over 10,000 post-combatants and their family members use it daily to cope with stress and improve their mental well-being.

The users state БАЗА is of real help to them, and we are proud to be able to help Ukrainian servicemembers and their families.
