The Challenge
A tight time frame
The client came to us with 9 months of work from a previous development team that had failed to meet their needs. The platform needed to be working smoothly for an important upcoming presentation, so we had just one month to complete the remaining tasks.
Scalability
In addition to implementing the main functionalities, we had to develop the app with scalability in mind. This was challenging since we didn’t know how many users the app would acquire, which extra features would be needed, and how much ongoing support it would get from stakeholders.
Real-time updating
Tona was a competitive app that supported a huge number of leaderboards. The biggest challenge here was to have the boards update dynamically and reflect changes in a particular group score based on user actions.
THE SOLUTIONS:

A fully operational platform. In just one month, we fixed existing issues and completed the features that the previous development team had failed to implement. This allowed the client to showcase the platform as a working and reliable solution.

Built from scratch. We redeveloped the entire platform from the ground up, to ensure that the app would be able to accommodate future extensions, additional features, and overall scalability needs. This allowed us to deliver a market-ready product.

Comprehensive data processing. Dynamic leaderboards were one of Tona’s core functionalities. NERDZ LAB created and implemented a robust, extensive system that would be able to manage a large amount of data and organize scores fast.
The Results
A system that supports more than 1,000,000 leaderboards with smooth, real-time updates.
Over 10,000 downloads on iOS & Android.
A database of more than 5000 fitness exercises, which made Tona the most comprehensive competitive gym fitness app.
NERDZ LAB was able to continue supporting the app for more than a year as we had rebuilt it from scratch.
The product was acquired by TV.FIT and became TruConnect by TV.FIT. Development is ongoing and our team is still involved.
